Canary Wharf is located on the strangely named Isle of Dogs. The Isle of Dogs was first mentioned in Henry III’s papers and it is thought that Edward III kept greyhounds here.
I highly recommend that zone because of its convenience. There is a nice mall where you may take the DLR, as well as the underground. The neigborhood is busy along the week day, whereas it is calm on the weekends. It is walking distance to Greenwich although there is an overground connection to such place.
Isle of dogs is surrounded by the water of Thamis. There are good groceries stores, pubs, restaurants etc…
